Shut down or restart? The way forward for computing in UK schools. January 2012.

This report discusses the need for better CPD provision, resources and understanding, in order for teachers to be able to teach computing effectively. It describes how the old curriculum needs to change in order to match the power computing has in shaping the world. Children need to develop fundamental computing skills not only to help themselves, but also to benefit and sustain the prosperity of Britain.

In their own words: What bothers children online?

Almost 10,000 children were asked what troubled them online. A variety of responses, revealed many concerns. The report then goes on to discuss the implications for policy based on these findings.
It is very interesting and enlightening to see internet safety concerns from a child's viewpoint!
Supporting the “Digital Natives”: what is the role of schools? Rebecca Eynon (2010)
This article defines the popular term 'digital native'. This is where children are adept and have the skills to use new technologies. Where as, their parents were not born into a world bursting with technology. This means that adults are often unable to support children in their use of technology. However, the paper argues that in fact there is variation amongst children in the way that they can use new technologies. Suggestions for how children can be supported in their use of technology is discussed.
