Reward systems
CLASS DOJO
During GPP, we implemented the reward system Class Dojo. It is a point based reward system, where childen are either given points or points are taken away. Each child has an avatar, when this avatar is clicked on there is an option to reward or remove points. Reasons are able to be selected for points being given or removed. If the interactive whiteboard is on children can see when points are given or taken away. A sound effect also alerts them. The two children with the most points at the end of the week were able to select a prize from the prize box. This was a great incentive.
Within my GPP I have found tokens to be the most effective reward system because they can be handed out whilst children are completing work and it is immediately there for them to see. I have found Dojo points to very useful for behaviour management at the beginning, during transitions and at the end of lessons but, I find they can be a distraction during lessons. Children try to check how many points they have and can get distracted from work and the teacher has to keep going to the computer to add points. Whereas, tokens and stickers are more tangible rewards which I can easily give out and children can see. Overall I think specific praise is the easiest and most effective reward of all!
